Caliburn G4 vs XROS 4 Mini vs Xlim Pro 3: Refillable Pod Kits Compared

If you are moving from a bar-style vape to a refillable pod kit, three names come up again and again: the Uwell Caliburn, the Vaporesso XROS and the OXVA Xlim. All three are compact, simple to use and made for 10ml nic salts. Here is how the current models compare.

    Uwell Caliburn G4

The Caliburn G4 has a 1300mAh battery and an output of up to 35W, with 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω and 0.9Ω pods. Use the 0.9Ω pod with 20mg nic salts for a tight, cigarette-style draw, or the lower-resistance pods for a looser draw with lower-strength liquids. If you want more battery, the Caliburn G4 Pro has an 1800mAh battery. Shop Uwell and Caliburn pods.

    Vaporesso XROS 4 Mini

The XROS 4 Mini is the smallest of the three, with a 1000mAh battery and a 2ml top-fill pod. A big plus is that XROS pods fit across the XROS range, so spare pods are easy to find. Shop Vaporesso and XROS pods.

    OXVA Xlim Pro 3

The Xlim Pro 3 has the biggest battery here at 1500mAh, with fast charging, and works with both XLIM V3 and XLIM EZ pods. It suits vapers who want long battery life from a slim kit. Shop OXVA and Xlim pods.

    Which should you choose?

    • Want the most control? Caliburn G4.
    • Want the smallest kit? XROS 4 Mini.

    Frequently asked questions

Which pod kit is best for nic salts?

All three are designed for nic salts. For 20mg nic salt, choose a pod of around 0.8Ω to 1.2Ω for the smoothest draw.

Do Caliburn G4 pods fit other Caliburn kits?

Caliburn models use different pods, so always buy the pods named for your kit. Check the product page or contact us if you are unsure.

How long do the pods last?

Most refillable pods last one to two weeks, depending on how much you vape and the liquid you use.

  • Prefilled vs Refillable Pod Kits: Cost per Week Compared (UK 2026)

Prefilled vs Refillable Pod Kits: Cost per Week Compared (UK 2026)

When single-use vapes were banned in the UK in June 2025, most vapers moved to one of two options: a prefilled pod kit, where you click in a new pod that is already filled, or a refillable pod kit, where you fill the pod yourself from a 10ml bottle. Both are rechargeable. The biggest difference over time is what they cost to run each week.

What you pay for with each type

Prefilled pod kit Refillable pod kit
Starter cost Low: battery plus a pod Higher: a better battery with more settings
Ongoing cost New prefilled pods 10ml e-liquid plus a replacement pod or coil every week or two
Flavour choice The flavours made for that pod Any compatible 10ml nic salt or e-liquid
Effort Click and go Fill, prime and change coils

How to work out your weekly cost

Prices change between brands and retailers, so the best way to compare is to use your own numbers.

    1. Find your weekly liquid use. A prefilled pod holds 2ml. If you use one pod a day, that is 14ml a week.
    2. Prefilled cost: pods used per week × price per pod.
    3. Refillable cost: (weekly ml ÷ 10) × price per 10ml bottle, plus the cost of the pods or coils you replace that week.
    4. Add the starter kit spread over the months you expect to use it, if you want the full picture.

    A worked example

Say you use 14ml a week. On a prefilled kit, that is 7 prefilled pods. On a refillable kit, it is 1.4 bottles of 10ml nic salt, plus about half a pack of replacement pods if you change the pod every two weeks. Put today’s prices for your brand into those two lines and you have your answer. Because one 10ml bottle fills five 2ml pods, refillable kits usually work out cheaper per ml, while prefilled kits save time and mess.

The 2026 duty applies to both

Since 1 October 2026, the Vaping Products Duty of £2.20 per 10ml applies to every vaping liquid, whether it is in a prefilled pod or a 10ml bottle. That is about 44p of duty in each 2ml pod. The duty does not change which option is cheaper, because it is charged per ml either way. Read our duty guide for more detail.

    Frequently asked questions

Are prefilled pods more expensive than refillable?

Per ml of liquid, prefilled pods usually cost more, because you are paying for a new pod each time. Refillable kits reuse the pod for a week or two.

How often do I change a refillable pod?

Most people change the pod or coil every one to two weeks, or sooner if the flavour fades or tastes burnt.

Does the duty make vaping cost the same as before?

No. The duty adds £2.20 per 10ml to all vaping liquids from 1 October 2026, so most prices rose slightly across both types.

  • Refillable vs Prefilled Pod Kits: Which Should You Choose After the UK Disposable Ban?

Refillable vs Prefilled Pod Kits: Which Should You Choose After the UK Disposable Ban?

Since 1 June 2025, single-use (disposable) vapes have been banned from sale in the UK. Most adult vapers who used disposables now choose one of two rechargeable options: a refillable pod kit or a prefilled pod kit. Both are legal, both are reusable, and both are easy to use. This guide compares them so you can pick the one that suits you.

What is a refillable pod kit?

A refillable pod kit is a small rechargeable device with an empty pod that you fill yourself from a bottle of e-liquid or nic salt. When the coil inside the pod wears out, you swap in a new pod or coil. Popular examples include the Vaporesso XROS range, the Uwell Caliburn range and the Innokin Sceptre.

What is a prefilled pod kit?

A prefilled pod kit uses a rechargeable battery with pods that come already filled with e-liquid. When a pod runs out, you click in a fresh one. Nothing to fill and no bottles to carry, so it feels closest to the disposables many people were used to.

    Side-by-side comparison

Refillable pod kit Prefilled pod kit
Ease of use Fill the pod from a bottle Click in a new pod
Running cost Usually lower over time Usually higher per ml
Flavour choice Any 10ml e-liquid or nic salt Flavours made for that pod system
Nicotine choice Pick any legal strength Set by the pod you buy
Waste Lower, you only replace pods or coils Higher, each pod is replaced
Best for Regular vapers who want value and choice Convenience and an easy switch from disposables

The UK rules that apply to both

Every nicotine vaping product sold in the UK must follow the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations. In practice that means:

    • Tanks and pods can hold a maximum of 2ml of nicotine e-liquid.
    • Nicotine strength is capped at 20mg/ml.
    • Nicotine e-liquid is sold in bottles of up to 10ml.

Big puff counts like 15K or 36K on some prefilled kits come from combining several 2ml pods and a rechargeable battery, not from a bigger tank. Since 1 October 2026, all vaping liquids also carry the new Vaping Products Duty, which you can read about in our duty guide.

    Which should you choose?

Choose a refillable pod kit if you vape every day, want the lowest running cost and like trying different flavours and strengths. Pair it with a few 10ml nic salts and some spare replacement pods.

Choose a prefilled pod kit if you want the simplest possible switch from disposables, with no filling and no spills. Keep a pack of spare prefilled pods to hand.

    Frequently asked questions

Are prefilled pod kits legal in the UK?

Yes. Rechargeable prefilled pod kits are legal because the battery is reusable and only the pods are replaced.

Can I use any e-liquid in a refillable pod kit?

Most pod kits work with both nic salts and freebase e-liquids. Check the coil resistance: lower resistance coils usually suit freebase and higher resistance coils usually suit nic salts.

How often do I need to change the pod or coil?

It depends on how much you vape and which liquid you use. A burnt or faded taste is the usual sign it is time to change.
